Vetch's Pier:

A man made reef that cost 36 000 Pounds Sterling to construct. It was designed to prevent the formation of a sand bar at the entrance to the harbour that caused ships to run aground. The pier was never completed with most of the original stonework being used in the construction of the North Pier.
